Ty Breuer finished out of the money at the opening night of bareback competition at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas on Thursday night.
The Mandan rider posted a score of 79.50. The lowest cash score was 84, posted by both Caleb Bennett and Clayton Biglow, good for $5,500.
Wyatt Denny claimed the Round 1 victory and more than $26,000 with a score of 87. Runner-up Mason Clements was second (86.5), collecting nearly $21 grand.
The second of the 10-night event begins at 9 p.m. on Friday.
Only the top 15 bareback riders on the world circuit qualify for NFR.
