10 YEARS AGO (2009): Justin Klabunde sank the go-ahead 3-pointer with 52 seconds remaining and then netted three clutch free throws down the stretch to power St. Mary's to a 72-68 West Region win over Century at the Linette Olson gym. Klabunde was one of three Saints in double figures. Tanner Harris led the way with 20, Klabunde added 16 and Michael Gilchrist tallied 10. Peter Pomonis tossed in 17 points to pace Century.
20 YEARS AGO (1999): Chuck Archambault scored 18 points and Brandon Sjol added 12 to lead the Bismarck Demons to a 48-43 victory over Pierre, S.D., in the Governor's Cup basketball game in Pierre. Archambault tossed in six 3-pointers in the game.
50 YEARS AGO (1969): Garrison's Troopers surged through the lower weights to whip Velva 29-13 in a high school wrestling dual at Garrison. Trooper grapplers won the first nine bouts before Velva registered on the scoreboard. Garland Frank picked up Garrison's only pin in 2:48 at 103 pounds. Bill Sands and Marlow Kittleson picked up pins for Velva at 165 and 175 pounds, respectively. Garrison improved its dual record to 7-3.
Henri Richard won 11 Stanley Cup titles with the Montreal Canadiens, the last coming in the 1972-73 season.
