10 YEARS AGO (2009): Two-time all-state quarterback Justin Purintun of Linton-HMB has signed a letter of intent to play football at the University of Mary. Other signing day recruits announced by Marauders coach Myron Schulz include Trevor Lennon of Grand Forks and St. Mary's kicker Zach Reisenauer.

20 YEARS AGO (1999): Carson overcame a 29-25 halftime deficit to defeat visiting Shiloh Christian 62-59 in Class B boys basketball. Carson's Todd Bachmeier and Shiloh's John Fleischer were the game's offensive standouts with 23 points apiece.

50 YEARS AGO (1969): Leo Bachmeier pumped in 21 points to lead Carson to a 72-60 Cannonball Conference basketball victory over Flasher in Carson. Mark Bruner added 18 points and Wayne Huber gathered 22 rebounds for the winning Chieftains. John Kraft led Flasher scorers with 21 points. Carson held a 32-29 halftime lead.

Trivia Answer

Santonio Holmes of the Pittsburgh Steelers was named MVP of Super Bowl XLIII in 2009 when the Steelers beat the Arizona Cardinals, 27-23.
