10 YEARS AGO (2009): Shiloh Christian kept Hazen at bay in the fourth quarter to claim a 76-72 boys basketball victory at Hazen. The Skyhawks led 54-50 entering the fourth quarter. Hazen's Chad Marshall was the game's scoring leader with 26 points. Austin Friesen tossed in 24 points for Shiloh and Trevor Singer added 19.

20 YEARS AGO (1999):  Center recovered from a first-game loss to overpower New Salem 13-15, 15-4, 15-0, 15-9 in the semifinal round of the District 15 volleyball tournament. Lindsey Henke enjoyed a big match for Center with 12 kills and 14 digs. Coty Hager led the New Salem attack with seven kills. Center will face Hazen in the championship match.

50 YEARS AGO (1969): Roger Kapp banged in 21 points to lead St. Gertrude's past Elgin 71-64 in boys basketball at Raleigh. St. Gertrude's used a full court press to run up a 39-30 halftime lead. Clair Volk and Florian Zins added 15 points each to the Saints' winning total. High point man for the night was Elgin's Bob Gillen with 24 points.

TRIVIA ANSWER

 Jay Berwanger, University of Chicago Heisman Trophy winner, was selected first initial NFL draft on Feb. 8, 1936 by the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles then traded his rights to the Chicago Bears.
