10 YEARS AGO (2009): Olympic gold medalist Andre Ward, an undefeated super middleweight contender, stopped Mandan's Shelby Pudwill on a third-round TKO in a boxing card at Temecula, Calif. Ward is now 20-0 with 13 knockouts. Pudwill, who has fought most of his career at 160 pounds, is 22-4-1.
20 YEARS AGO (1999): For once, a bad break worked in Tocker Pudwill's favor. Cirelly Nino was supposed to provide a stiff test for Cory Rader in a boxing card in Mandan. When Nino came in overweight, he met Pudwill, instead. Pudwill took advantage of the opportunity by scoring a unanimous decision over the tough Mexican fighter in a 10-round super middleweight bout. He thus ran his career record to 34-3. Nino now stands 30-16.
50 YEARS AGO (1969): Riverdale edged Bowden 14-8 in a nine-man football game in Riverdale. Wayne DeTienne and Steve Snyder scored touchdowns for Riverdale, now 2-0. Cory Kunz ran for Bowden's TD.
The Texas Rangers’ Nolan Ryan threw a no-hitter, with 16 strikeouts, at the age of 44 on May 1, 1991 against the Toronto Blue Jays.
