20 YEARS AGO (1999): The University of Mary has earned a berth in the NAIA national softball tournament. The Marauders defeated Northwestern of Iowa 5-1 in Omaha, Neb., to claim the Great Plains regional championship. Michelle Guess pitched the championship game for 15th-ranked U-Mary, now 42-3.

50 YEARS AGO (1969): Dickinson state split a college baseball doubleheader at Valley City, winning the nightcap 3-0 after dropping the opener 8-4.  Dave Maher threw a four-hitter for the visiting Savages in the second game. Valley City took a 3-0 lead in the opener on Greg Beauchman's home run with two men on.
