10 YEARS AGO (2009): Bismarck High School senior right-hander Stephen Glasser scattered seven hits to defeat Dickinson 7-3 in West Region baseball. Glasser, who walked one and struck out five, pitched ahead in the count and on the scoreboard most of the day. With the win, Glasser improved to 3-1.
20 YEARS AGO (1999): The University of Mary has earned a berth in the NAIA national softball tournament. The Marauders defeated Northwestern of Iowa 5-1 in Omaha, Neb., to claim the Great Plains regional championship. Michelle Guess pitched the championship game for 15th-ranked U-Mary, now 42-3.
50 YEARS AGO (1969): Dickinson state split a college baseball doubleheader at Valley City, winning the nightcap 3-0 after dropping the opener 8-4. Dave Maher threw a four-hitter for the visiting Savages in the second game. Valley City took a 3-0 lead in the opener on Greg Beauchman's home run with two men on.
Bob Gibson also had a streak of 26 straight quality starts, stretching from the 1967-68 seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals.
