10 YEARS AGO (2009): Former Bismarck Bobcats coach Dane Litke has been hired to lead the Janesville, Wis., Jets through their first season. The Jets are an expansion team in the North American Hockey League. Litke was with the Bobcats for five-plus seasons, three as an assistant and two-plus as head coach. He resigned 26 games into last season. His head coaching record with the Bobcats was 68-66-12.
20 YEARS AGO (1999): Bismarck broke away from a 1-1 halftime tie to defeat Mandan 3-1 in girls soccer. Bismarck's Leslie Link and Mandan's Lacey Berger scored in the first half. Jenny Kelsch gave Bismarck the lead at 49:19, and Deanne Hawie added an insurance goal at 77:46. The visiting Braves were outshot 19-4.
50 YEARS AGO (1969): Frederick (Fritz) Fell has announced his resignation as freshman basketball coach at North Dakota State University. Fell, 35, said he is considering several high school coaching offers. Fell led the Baby Bison to an 11-4 season last winter. A 1961 graduate of NDSU, Fell was a high school coach for seven seasons, forging a 127-135 record. He holds a master's degree from NDSU.
Albert Pujols has 2,003 career RBIs. Only Hank Aaron (2,297) and Alex Rodriguez (2,086) have more, according to Elias Sports Bureau, the official statistician of Major League Baseball.
