10 YEARS AGO (2009): The Bismarck Bobcats just completed one of the best seasons in franchise history -- and there will be an encore. Owner Thom Brigl, who said that financial concerns were endangering the team's future in Bismarck, has confirmed that the Bobcats will be sticking around.

20 YEARS AGO (1999): DeAnn Howie and Andrea Balliet led the way as Bismarck defeated Century 1-0 in girls soccer at the Community Bowl. Howie drilled the game's only goal in the middle of the first half. Balliet turned in a 10-save shutout as BHS avenged a 4-0 loss to Century a month earlier. Century, the defending state champion had lost only one West Region game in the last three years and had surrendered just three goals in regional play.

50 YEARS AGO (1969): Greg Schmaltz, a three-sport athlete at St. Mary's High School, has announced his intention to enroll at Bismarck Junior College. He competed in football, basketball and track at St. Mary's and in the summer played American Legion baseball.
