10 YEARS AGO (2009): Dean Blais has resigned as head coach and general manager of the United States Hockey League's Fargo Force. Blais was named coach at Nebraska-Omaha later in the day. Blais coached Fargo to the USHL finals last season and was named the league's coach of the year.

20 YEARS AGO (1999): Former St. Mary's athlete Tim Olson has committed to playing baseball for the University of Florida. Olson, a shortstop, was an honorable mention junior college All-American last season at Hutchinson, Kam., Junior College.

50 YEARS AGO (1969): Jeff Huwe struck out the first eight batters he faced and pitched Center to a 9-1 road victory over Beulah in American Legion baseball. Center is now 3-1 for the year.
