10 YEARS AGO (2009): Matt Brendel of Bismarck holds a 28-point lead in the season standings in the Hobby Stock division at Dacotah Speedway in Mandan. “It’s been one of those years where everything is falling into place,” Brendel said ahead of the yearly Governor’s Cup. Dickinson’s Travis Ohleiser ranks second in Hobby Stocks.

20 YEARS AGO (1999): The Bismarck Governors pounded out 26 hits in a doubleheader sweep of Devils Lake in American Legion baseball action. Mike Gossett clubbed two home runs in the Govs’ 20-8 opening-game win. Joel Stugelmeyer and A.J. Meyer also added roundtrippers for Bismarck. John Stewart fired a two-hit shutout in the second game for the Govs. Dalton Eichele and Nathan Mickelson went deep in the nightcap for Bismarck.

50 YEARS AGO (1969): Scott Hewitt pitched all seven innings on the mound to lead Bismarck to a 4-2 win over Rapid City. Hewitt allowed five hits and struck out nine as Bismarck snapped Rapid City’s 24-game winning streak. It was just the second loss of the summer in 32 games for Rapid City. The win improved Bismarck’s mark to 17-18. Russ Henegar had a key two-out, two-run single to snap a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning for Bismarck.
