10 YEARS AGO (2009): Defending state champion Minot looms as the favorite, but Century expects to be a factor in the coming high school girls golf season. Last year Century had a quartet of sophomores -- McKenzie McMillan, Adrianna Harris, Krissy Aasen and Alexa Dvorak -- finish among the West Region's top 16 in season average. The Patriots placed fifth in last year's state tournament.
20 YEARS AGO (1999): Jayme Berger of Mandan has signed a letter of intent to attend Coker College in South Carolina, a NCAA Division II school. Berger played baseball at Iowa Western Community College the past two seasons, batting .395 and .355. Berger was an all-state player at Mandan High School.
50 YEARS AGO (1969): Three-sport athlete Jim Gross of Shields has enrolled at Northern State College in Aberdeen, S.D. The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder played football and basketball and ran track for Fort Yates High School. He co-captained the 1969 basketball team that placed third in the state Class B tournament.
