10 YEARS AGO (2009): Two Bismarck golfers advanced to the final 16 in match play at the Pine to Palm golf tournament in Detroit Lakes, Minn. Mike Balzer and Rick Kuhn, a two-time champion, won second-round matches. Balzer defeated Garrett Gosh 3 and 2. Kuhn beat Geoff Pirkl 5 and 3.

20 YEARS AGO (1999): Omaha, Neb., used lots of line drives and plenty of Dickinson errors to rout the host Roughriders 25-1 in round-robin play at the Central Plains Regional American Legion baseball tournament. Omaha scored 13 runs in the first inning with the help of three Dickinson errors. Starting pitcher Robert Siefken took the loss for the Roughriders.

50 YEARS AGO (1969): Bismarck stock car racer Marlan Haakenson was released from a Bismarck hospital earlier this week after a racing accident in Minot two weeks ago. Haakenson's supermodified racer flipped over during the fifth lap of his event. He suffered neck injuries and a concussion. He was treated in Minot and Bismarck hospitals.
