10 YEARS AGO (2009): Tyler Liffrig made his mark in the University of Mary baseball record book, but more importantly helped the Marauders to a victory. Liffrig, a junior, clubbed his ninth homer of the season and the 28th of his career to help U-Mary to a 10-6 victory over visiting Bemidji State in the opener of an NSIC doubleheader. Bemidji won the second contest 13-8.
20 YEARS AGO (1999): Century ended its winless drought with a 9-8 victory over St. Mary's in the second game of a West Region high school baseball doubleheader. The win was the first in 12 starts for the Patriots this spring. Tom Branca went the 136-pitch distance for Century. The Patriots had blown a 6-4 lead in a 10-8 first-game loss.
50 YEARS AGO (1969): Two records fell as Baker, Mont., High School won the Beach Lions track and field meet. Baker outpointed runner-up Dickinson Trinity 40-24. Rex Wenko of Killdeer and Tom Heckaman of Beach were the record-setters. Wenko had a 163-foot toss in the javelin. Heckaman won the high hurdles in 15.3 seconds.
The Green Bay Packers went 15-1 in the 2011 season, but lost to the New York Giants 37-20 in the divisional round of the playoffs.
