10 YEARS AGO (2009): When the Memphis Grizzlies fired head coach Marc Iavaroni in January, there were some anxious moments for former Dakota Wizards coach Dave Joerger, one of Iavaroni's assistants. But new coach Lionel Hollins didn't make any changes with the staff, and Joerger will be back for another season.

20 YEARS AGO (1999): Century's Natalie Kirchoffner apparently took the slogan on Patriot coach Matt Lawrence's sweatshirt literally: Score early, score often. Kirchoffner did both. The CHS senior netted a hat trick -- her first three goals of the season -- as Century blanked Bismarck 4-0 in a battle of unbeatens at the Community Bowl.

50 YEARS AGO (1969): The Bismarck High School cindermen, with the help of a surprisingly good effort by the weightmen, walked away with the Valley City State Invitational track meet. The Demons chalked up 72 1/2 points. Jamestown was second with 42 1/2. Mark Bougie, Jerry Froeschle, Steve Mayer and Bob Nordstrom of BHS went 1-2-3-4 in the shot put. Dave Stewart finished second in the javelin. Mike Aide sprang a mild surprise by taking first in the discus.

Trivia Answer
