10 YEARS AGO (2008): Hank Berry of Sidney, Mont., won the feature race at Mandan's Dacotah Speedway and with it the championship of Dakota Classic Modified Tour. Going into the tour's finale at Mandan, Berry was trailing the leader, Will Brack of Meade, Colo., by 21 points. Berry has now won the annual six-stop tour event three times in its 19 years of existence.

20 YEARS AGO (1998): Two Grand Forks throwers, Casey Blue and Briona Reynolds, have been named Gatorade Circle of Champions state track and field athletes of the year. Blue, from Grand Forks Central, won both the shot put and discus at the state Class A track meet. Reynolds was the state shot put champion for Grand Forks Red River.

50 YEARS AGO (1968): Dr. Paul Cook and Paul O'Leary of Bismarck are among six golfers who will make up the inaugural class of the North Dakota state golf hall of fame. Cook was a five-time state champion and finished second twice. His last title came in 1934. O'Leary, a three-time state champion, was the first North Dakota golfer to become a touring pro.
