10 YEARS AGO (2008): Former Century High School track champion Weston Leutz begins competition today in the IAAF World Junior Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland. Leutz, a decathlete at North Dakota State University, qualified for the world event by scoring a 7,123 in the USA junior outdoor track and field championships.

 

20 YEARS AGO (1998): Brandon Reiser hit a home run and Danny Peterson went the distance on the mound as Hazen defeated Watford City 7-5 in American Legion baseball at Hazen. Wyatt Voll rapped three hits for Watford City.

50 YEARS AGO (1968): Mandan pitchers had trouble locating the plate and the result was a 9-6 American Legion baseball loss to Pierre, S.D., at Memorial Ballpark. Mike Cook, Gerry Caya and Jim Syvrud combined for six walks and two hit batters in two innings. Mandan led 5-1 when its pitchers were stricken with wildness in the seventh inning. John Skager and Caya drilled three hits apiece for Mandan.
