10 YEARS AGO (2009): For the second time in two volleyball matches, South Border came out on the short end of a 3-2 decision. Kidder County, down 2-1, won the match with decisions of 25-17 and 15-9 in the final two games. Eli Benz led the way for Kidder County with a school record 41 kills. That brings her career total to 1,015.
20 YEARS AGO (1999): Mandan, dead last in West Region passing offense, threw for 181 yards to upend St. Mary's 13-6 at the Community Bowl. Ben Goergen hit on 16 of 30 passes, including two touchdowns for Mandan. The outcome leaves both teams with 1-7 records.
50 YEARS AGO (1969): Fargo North may have lost to Fargo Shanley, but the Spartans didn't lose much ground in the Associated Press Class A football poll. Shanley defeated North 8-0 for its 48th straight victory, and once-beaten North remained No. 2, the loss notwithstanding. Wahpeton, Minot and Mandan complete the top five.
Since moving to Division I’s Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), UND has a record of 64-63. The Fighting Hawk play at Idaho State on Saturday at 2 p.m.
