10 YEARS AGO (2008): Brent Qvale, Jeff Skadeland and John Oyloe combined for 56 points as Williston downed No. 3-ranked Bismarck 73-68 in West Region boys basketball at Williston. Qvale led the charge with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Jalen Finley had a huge offensive night for the Demons, scoring 31 points.

20 YEARS AGO (1998): Minot goalie Matt Krueger turned away 43 Bismarck shots to hole the Demons to a 2-2 tie in West Region hockey at the VFW All Seasons Arena. Minot took a 2-0 lead on goals by Blake Hanson and Ryan Jundt. Bismarck drew even on two tallies by Mike Laschen. Bismarck outshot Minot 6-3 in the overtime, but neither team scored.

50 YEARS AGO (1968): A Bismarck couple, Don and Marian Barbie, won the state Bowling Proprietors Association mixed doubles tournament at Sky Lanes in Valley City with a four-game handicap tally of 1,757. Eight pins back were Ray and Rita McLaughlin of Valley City with a 1,749. Myles Knutson and Bonnie Chase of Mandan shot a 1,723 for third place.
