BARNHARDT EARNS WEEKLY HONOR
University of Mary wrestler Tate Barnhardt had been named the NSIC's top performer of the week.
Barnhardt, a senior from Bismarck, improved his season dual record to 8-0 with a pair of victories against Mankato and Upper Iowa. Barnhardt’s win in the Mankato dual came against the No. 1-ranked 133-pounder in NCAA Division II, George Farmah. Barnhardt won the match, 9-2.
Barnhardt also moved up to No. 3 in the NCAA Division II national rankings at No. 3.
Team-wise, the Marauders are up to No. 20 nationally, four spots higher than the last poll.
Phillip Springsteen, 10-2 in duals this season, is ranked No. 8 at 174.
The Marauders host Southwest Minnesota State on Friday and Augustana on Saturday, both duals starting at 7 p.m.
ASKVIG COLLECTS NSIC AWARD
Cassie Askvig from the University of Mary has been named the Northern Sun North Division's Women's Basketball Player of the week.
Askvig, a junior from Minot, averaged 25 points and 17.5 rebounds in helping the Marauders to wins over Wayne State and Augustana.
Askvig, who is averaging 18.9 points and 9.6 rebounds per game, also surpassed the 1,000-point plateau in the win over Augustana.
The Marauders (11-5 NSIC, 13-5 overall) are on the road this weekend, playing at Upper Iowa on Friday and Winona State on Saturday.
KIDDER COUNTY RANKED NO. 1
Kidder County, and its 19-0 record, ascended to the No. 1 ranking in the latest Class B girls basketball poll.
The Wolves got 12 of 17 first-place votes. No. 2 Langdon-Edmore-Munich got the other five.
Undefeated Trenton (19-0) is ranked fifth. Hettinger-Scranton moved up two spots to No. 8.
In the boys poll, Thompson moved up from No. 2 into the top spot.
Shiloh (13-2) held steady at No. 5. The Skyhawks play at Beulah on Tuesday.
