BREUER NOTCHES THIRD AT NFR

Ty Breuer rode to a third-place finish at the National Finals Rodeo Sunday night in Las Vegas.

The Mandan bareback rider posted a score of 87 to net $13,327, giving him an NFR total of $32,212 through Sunday night’s action. Breuer moved into 10th, up two spots, in the world standings with nearly $121,000 in winnings on the season.

Through the first four nights of competition, six scores of 90 or better have been posted.

“Just being in that locker room and everything else that goes with that is great,” Breuer said. “The first guy out tonight was 88 points. It’s just crazy. The top 15 are all that good. That makes it fun.”

The NFR runs through Saturday, Dec. 14.

JIMMIES' KNUDSON NAMED ALL-AMERICAN

University of Jamestown senior Britta Knudson has been named an NAIA second team All-American in volleyball.

Knudson, a Century High graduate, led the Jimmies with 345 kills, .345 hitting percentage, and 184 blocks. Knudson's 184 blocks led the NAIA.

The Jimmies set a school-record for wins with 33 and advance to the national tournament semifinals.

FORE SEASONS OPEN HOUSE FRIDAY

Fore Seasons Center in Bismarck is holding an open house Friday to feature upgrades made to the facility.

From 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., buckets of golf balls will be half price. There will be free use of one of the indoor turf fields for throwing, running, catching and kicking. 

From 9 a.m.-7 p.m., batting cages will be half off for 15- or 30-minute sessions. 

At 8 p.m. the movie "Elf" will be shown and is free to the public. No food or beverages, other than water, are allowed on the turf.

KIDDER COUNTY RANKED NO. 4 IN ‘B’

Kidder County is ranked No. 4 in the latest Class B girls basketball poll of the season.

The 2-0 Wolves also picked up one first-place vote. Kindred got 16 of the 18 first-place votes and is ranked No. 1.

UND'S PINTO ON SELECT LIST

North Dakota freshman Shane Pinto has been named to the U.S. National Junior Team's 28-player preliminary roster for the 2020 World Juniors.

Pinto, a second-round pick of Calgary in last year's NHL draft, leads No. 2-ranked UND with eight goals.

NDSU SIGNS DAVIES TRACK TRIO

Six-time state champion Sally Korgho has signed with the North Dakota State track and field team. Korgho swept both hurdle races last season at the state meet at the MDU Resources Community Bowl in Bismarck.

Kaia Schneider (high jump) and Merrit Beil (sprints) of Davies also signed with the Bison. 

NSU HIRES NEW FOOTBALL COACH

Mike Schmidt has been hired as the new head football coach at Northern State.

Schmidt had been the head coach at NCAA Division III Wisconsin-LaCrosse, compiling a record of 27-13 over four season.

Schmidt replaces Tom Dosch, who was let go last month after 10 seasons as head coach.
