BOBCATS NOTCH ROAD VICTORY
Adam Stacho and Daniel Chladek netted third-period goals as the Bismarck Bobcats broke a 1-all tie en route to a 3-1 road win over the Minnesota Wilderness on Friday night.
Stacho’s team-leading 16th goal at the 17:01 mark of the third, assisted by Alex Pollock, and Chladek’s empty-netter – his 12th of the season -- sealed the win for the Bobcats, who further distanced themselves from the Wilderness for a playoff spot. The Bobcats now have a 12-point edge over the Wilderness for the fourth and final playoff spot in the NAHL’s Central Division.
Tim Piechowski scored Bismarck’s first goal at 2:28 of the opening period. Willy Stauber and Jacob Marti got assists. Piechowski has nine goals on the season.
John Roberts earned the win in goal for the Bobcats, stopping 29 of 30 shots. Ryan Fanti stopped 21 shots for the Wilderness, who were whistled for just one penalty. Bismarck killed off two Wilderness power plays. Donte Lawson scored at 8:30 of the first for the home team.
The two teams meet again tonight in Cloquet, Minn.
MURILLO SWIMS IN 500 FREE
University of Mary freshman Victoria Murillo placed 30th in the 500 freestyle at the NCAA Division II national swimming championships in Indianapolis on Friday.
Murillo’s time of 5:00.86 was the sixth-best time among freshmen in the race.
Murillo competes in her fourth and final race at nationals on Saturday in the 100 free.
U-MARY BASEBALL DOUBLEHEADER MOVED
The University of Mary baseball team had its Northern Sun opener against Sioux Falls, S.D., pushed back one day and moved to Quincy, Ill.
The Marauders (3-8) will play Sioux Falls (2-11) once on Sunday at 6 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Monday starting at noon.
