BOBCATS GET ROAD SWEEP OF BROOKINGS
BROOKINGS, S.D. – Three second-period goals lifted the Bismarck Bobcats to a come-from-behind road win over NAHL Central Division rival Brookings on Saturday night.
The Blizzard took an early lead on John Kaljian’s first-period goal.
Austin Jouppi, who scored two goals on the night, evened it up 50 seconds into the second period and Mitchell Walinski’s power-play goal at 6:46 gave the Bobcats the lead.
Andy Stoneman, who assisted on the Bobcats’ first goal of the night, scored at 16:40 of the second, giving Bismarck a 3-1 lead.
Jouppi scored his second goal of the night at 10:46 of the third, making it a three-goal cushion for the Bobcats.
Atticus Kelly stopped 30 of 31 shots he faced to get the win for Bismarck.
George McBey finished with 20 saves for the Blizzard.
UND GETS SPLIT WITH DULUTH
DULUTH, Minn. – Jordan Kawaguchi and Grant Mismash scored first-period goals to lift North Dakota to a 2-1 victory over Minnesota-Duluth, gaining a split in their NCHC series.
Kawaguchi scored at 3:10 of the first, and Mishmash made it 2-0 just 91 seconds later.
UMD got within one goal at 10:28 of the first.
Adam Scheel stopped 28 of 29 shots he faced in goal for North Dakota (8-6-1, 2-4-0 NCHC).
Former Bismarck Bobcat Hunter Shepard finished with 28 saves for Minnesota-Duluth (10-3-1, 4-2-0 NCHC).
THREE MARAUDERS FIRST ON MAT
University of Mary wrestlers Lance Jarrett, Gerardo Jaime and Lincoln Turman took first place at the Dragon Open in Moorhead on Saturday.
Jarrett went 3-0 to win the 184-pound title with two pins and a technical fall.
Heavyweight Jaime registered three wins for the 285-pound title.
At 125, Turman led a 1-2-3 U-Mary finish, going 3-0. Karsen Mosbrucker took second.
Phillip Springsteen took third at 174 in his season debut wit two wins.
At 149, Braydon Huber took second with a 2-1 showing. Heavyweight Dom Tudor also took second.
The Marauders have two road duals this week, Wednesday against Concordia (Moorhead) and Northern State on Thursday.
MARAUDERS' MURILLO SHINES AGAIN
The University of Mary’s Victoria Murillo placed first in the 100-meter dash on Saturday at the Dragon-Cobber Invite on Saturday.
Murillo, a freshman, had four firsts combined in the two-day event.
Abbey Zajdinski claimed a victory in the 100 butterfly (56.33) on Saturday.
In the 200 backstroke, Rachel Riedel (2:08.30) and Alyssa Boese (2:08.78) went 1-2.
Team-wise the Marauders finished third out of five teams with 1,596 points behind MSU-Moorhead (1922) and Augustana (1854).
The Marauders are off until after the holidays, starting with the Dragon Invite Jan. 18-19 in West Fargo.
