AUSTIN PACES U-MARY MEN TO WIN

Dennis Austin III tossed in a season-high 22 points to lead the University of Mary to a 78-72 NSIC victory over Upper Iowa Friday night.

Austin, a senior guard who played three seasons at Upper Iowa, netted eight of 12 floor shots, including a pair of 3-pointers. He also collected a team-high nine rebounds, dished out four assists and made two steals.

Connor Hellebust added 19 points on 6-for-10 shooting -- 4-for-5 from 3-point land. Matthew Kreklow and Jaylan White contributed 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The Marauders won for the eighth time in 17 NSIC games. They are 11-12 overall.

Joe Smoldt tallied 19 points for Upper Iowa.

U-MARY WOMEN TOP UPPER IOWA

Macy Williams scored 16 points and Coral Gillette and Gabbie Bohl added 12 apiece as the University of Mary outlasted Upper Iowa 69-65 in an NSIC women's basketball game Friday.

The Marauders trailed 11-9 at the end of the first quarter, but carried a 35-26 lead into the intermission after outscoring Upper Iowa 26-15 in the second. U-Mary netted all 16 of its free-throw attempts.

Cassie Askvig collected seven rebounds and dished out four assists for the Marauders, who improved to 14-6 overall and 12-5 in NSIC play.

Bekka Pierson led Upper Iowa with 13 points.
