Clark the Lark will be getting some company this year.
Bismarck’s Northwoods League baseball team is adding a female mascot for the upcoming season and fans will have the chance to name her.
“Clark said he didn’t want a raise this year, he said he was lonely,” Larks general manager John Bollinger joked. “We have so many little girls that come to our games, we thought it’d be a great addition to the ballpark. We’ll kind of play off that theme during the season, Clark having a love interest, so to speak.
“She’ll be the new bird on the block.”
The Larks will hold a contest to name the new mascot and will be bringing in a Major League All-Star to help with the unveiling ceremony.
On March 21, former Minnesota Twins pitcher Glen Perkins will be in Bismarck for an evening event to announce the new mascot’s name. Perkins also is a Northwoods League alum. The St. Paul, Minn., native had 120 career saves for the Twins and was an all-star in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
Also, manager Sean Repay will be on hand as the Larks introduce their players for the 2019 season. The location of the event will be announced soon.
“It’s going to be a lot of fun to have Glen Perkins there and we’ll do the whole autograph thing and Sean (Repay) will be here to talk about our players for the season,” Bollinger said. “Obviously, we’ve had some pretty tough weather so we’re all excited and looking forward to some warmer temperatures and talking baseball.”
The Larks, named the Northwoods League Organization of the Year for the second year in a row, won the North Division first half title last season, advancing to the playoffs for the first time.
