The New Salem-Almont wrestling team added another Region 4 title to its collection on Saturday, claiming the region's individual tournament championship at Hettinger.
The Holsteins, winners of the region's dual tournament title on Feb. 2, racked up 229 points on the day, 22 more than second-place Bowman County.
New Salem-Almont crowned five individual champions -- Clay Gerhardt at 120 pounds, Tayt Wolding at 132, Chauncey Dittus at 145, Josh Irwin at 152, and Isaiah Huus at 182. Gerhardt improved to 41-2, Wolding 44-2, Dittus 43-1, Irwin 44-3, and Huus 36-7.
The Holsteins also had three second-place finishers and four wrestlers who placed third. In all, New Salem-Almont will send 13 wrestlers to the Class B state tournament later this week in Fargo. The top four placers in each weight class qualify.
Individual champions Clayton Mattern (170), Mitch Stuber (195) and Beau Jeffers (220) highlighted Bowman County's day. Jeffers has 43 victories in 47 matches.
Hettinger-Scranton's Kyle Burwick pinned D.J. Martian of Bowman County in the 126-pound championship match, raising his record to 50-0. The senior, who hasn't lost since the 2016-17 season, has reached 50 victories in a season four times. He will go after his fifth state title in Fargo.
Defending state champion Lisbon claimed team honors at the Region 1 tournament Saturday in Linton.
Boeden Greenley (106), Caleb Nielsen (113), Jordan Sours (152), Gavin Reinke (195), Sam Rieger (220) and Ben Shearer (285) won individual titles for the Broncos, who finished the day with 226 points. Second-place South Border had 180.5.
Sours improved to 35-0, while Shearer handed Riley Molter of South Border his first loss of the season in the 285-pound final. Molter is 22-1.
The Broncos will have 10 wrestlers in the state tournament.
The region's 170-pound champion, Garrett Jangula of Napoleon-Gackle-Streeter, will carry a 37-0 record into the state tournament. The senior was an unbeaten state champion last year.
Five individual champions powered Central Cass to the Region 2 tournament title Saturday at Larimore.
Jake Deutsch (106), Andrew Volk (132), Chase Gross (160), Jeremiah Sullivan (170) and Cade Merrigan (220) captured top honors for the Squirrels, who tallied 226 points. Second-place Carrington had 188.
At the Region 3 tournament in Rugby, Velva sent nine wrestlers to the finals on the way to capturing the team championship. Two Aggies closed the deal -- Gunnar Mogen at 113, and Brayden Selzler at 160.
Velva finished with 196.5 points, while Minot Ryan placed second with 178.
Coy Spooner of Des Lacs-Burlington, the winner at 195 pounds, raised his record to 40-0.
