DICKINSON -- They may be playing in Dickinson, but the state Class A boys golf tournament is pretty much a Red River Valley production at the halfway point.
The top four teams -- Fargo Davies, Grand Forks Red River, West Fargo and Grand Forks Central -- all hail from the East Region. Davies has a six-stroke lead on Red River with 18 holes in the books.
Similarly, all of the top 10 individuals are from the East with 18 holes to go at the Heart River Golf Course.
Adam Van Raden of Red River took the first-day lead with a three-under-par 69. Bridger Hansen of Wahpeton (70), Cade Pederson (70) and Zach Teske (71) of West Fargo, Blaze Ackerland of Sheyenne (71), and Dylan Naylor (71) and Matt Kulla (71) of Davies also came in under par.
Davies, Red River, West Fargo and Central all made it through the first day with team totals under 300. Davies carded a 288, followed by Red River's 294, West Fargo's 295 and Central's 297.
Minot, Century and West Fargo Sheyenne form a pack with scores 15 or more strokes off the pace. Minot shot a 303 on Tuesday, followed by Century at 308 and Sheyenne at 309. The other five teams posted first-day scores of 323 or higher.
Easton Evanoff of and Kessler Heilman of Minot and Trey Hohbein of Mandan paced West Region golfers on Tuesday with 75s, which leaves them in a six-way tie for 14th place, six strokes back.
Jackson Ward and Logan Rush led the way for Century with 76s. Bismarck's leader was Derek Burr with an 81. Ben Wilson shot a 76 for St. Mary's, and Hunter Myran led the way for the host Dickinson Midgets with an 84.
The tournament is scheduled to conclude with an additional 18 holes today. Tee times begin at 8 a.m. MDT. Red River is the defending champion.
