Channing Mann made it sound like little more than a game of croquet or leapfrog.
Ho-hum, nine carries, 220 yards and four touchdowns.
"All I can do is thank my blockers for everything I did," Mann said after leading Bismarck to a 47-13 victory over Fargo Davies on Saturday evening at the Community Bowl.
"The holes were there and I hit them and did what I could to make the most of my opportunities," Mann added.
Mann, a 6-foot, 170-pound senior making his second start, had a career night in the books before Davies knew what hit it. His first six carries totaled 186 yards, including scoring runs of 11, 19 and 80 yards.
The Demons led 21-09 at the first quarter break and added three more scores in the second period to inflate the lead to 41-0.
Tyson Gibson's 11-yard TD pass to Devin Schirado and Dillon Lange's scoring runs of 14 and 25 yards put Bismarck on top by six touchdowns with 8:50 to play in the first half.
At that point Davies, a team with no seniors, put together its best sequence of the game.
Jordan Foster broke a routine toss to the right sideline by Matt Schumacher for an 80-yard touchdown when Bismarck's coverage man fell down.
Bismarck fumbled the ball away on its own 30-yard line in its next possession and the Eagles immediately took advantage.
Schumacher's slant to Eric Peterson took the ball to the one-yard line. Schumacher scored on a quarterback sneak on the next play.
That gave Davies two touchdowns and 13 points in the final 2:10 of the half.
Bismarck defensive end Dexter Werner recovered a fumble at the Davies 2-yard line just three plays into the second half, setting up the final Demon score.
Mann banged into the end zone on the next play, closing the scoring for the evening. The BHS tailback said the third-ranked Demons emerged from the game a better team than they were at kickoff.
"It seems like we're coming together and making it a team with one heartbeat," Mann said.
Bismarck head coach Mark Gibson said there were concerns, however. He thought the Demons lost their edge after scoring in their first six possessions.
"We came out, executed well and had great intensity," Gibson said. "But after four scores or five scores we laid down a little bit and that concerns me. But give credit to the kids from Davies. They kept fighting the whole game, and that's not easy."
Gibson said the Demons, who have won two straight state titles, made progress. His concern is a date with Century that awaits two weeks down the road.
"I think we made steps in the right direction ... but we still have a long way to go. ... We've got to get healthy and be hitting on all cylinders in a couple of weeks."
Davies coach Jason Thielges said the Eagles made a few steps ahead in the process of building a first-year football program.
"Sometimes at game day you get hit in the face and don't respond," he said. "I'm proud of the way we responded tonight."
"We've got a lot of growing up and learning football to do, but this is a program with a ton of potential," Thielges added. "We've got to have a vision for the future. This is not a one-year deal."
NOTES: Mann had a 61-yard touchdown run canceled via a penalty with 4:29 to play in the third quarter. ... Dillon Lange added 137 yards on the ground as BHS piled up 462 rushing yards.
