10 YEARS AGO (2008): Kalvin Larson grabbed Derek Somerville's screen pass and blasted into the end zone from five yards out to give Minot a 16-15 West Region over Century at the Community Bowl. Larson's winning touchdown came with 10 seconds to play. The outcome leaves both Minot and Century 4-1 in the region and 5-2 overall.

20 YEARS AGO (1998): The University of Mary women's team took first place in the Roe Granger cross country meet at Aberdeen, S.D. The Marauders posted a 41 to runner-up Dakota State's 59. Kate Hostetler was U-Mary's top finisher, placing third. Other U-Mary scorers were Laurie Fox (seventh), Carey Litsey (eighth), Sheila Kabat (ninth) and Shandi Hertz (14th). Marie Parker Sample of Dakota State won the women's race.

50 YEARS AGO (1968): St. Mary's, with just one victory to its credit, played to a 13-13 tie with fourth-ranked Bismarck in a West Region football game at Hughes Field. Bismarck led 13-6 after three quarters, but Saints quarterback Rod Barth connected with Don Rubbelke for an 81-yard touchdown pass with 2:11 to play. Tom Schirber's extra-point kick knotted the score.
