10 YEARS AGO (2008): Bismarck swept both state cross country titles for the second straight year in a brilliant cross country display at Jamestown. Behind Joash Osoro's individual championship, the BHS boys finished with 34 points for their fourth straight state title. The Demon girls posted a 43 to capture their second straight title. Alexa Wachter and Taylor Pintar led the way for BHS, placing fifth and sixth, respectively. Alissa Mears of West Fargo was the first girls finisher.
20 YEARS AGO (1998): University of Mary quarterback Chris Schwab stole the show, leading the Marauders to a 27-7 NDCAC football victory at Mayville. Schwab, a junior from Bismarck, became U-Mary's all-time passing leader late in the first half. He entered the game needing just 82 passing yards to surpass the 4,970 yards credited to Paul Cronin in 1995.
50 YEARS AGO (1968): Dickinson outfought Ellendale and a 40-mph wind to earn its first NDCAC football victory, 46-14 over the visiting Dusties. Dickinson State needed only two minutes to start the scoring on a 22-yard dash by Gary Schmaltz. Two one-yard runs by Tim Zastoupil enabled the Savages to open a 20-0 first-quarter lead. Ellendale is winless in six conference games.
Blake Bortles of the Jacksonville Jaguars has 72 interceptions the past four seasons.
