20 YEARS AGO (1998): Hope-Finley defeated Hettinger 12-6 to win the state Class B American Legion baseball championship at Langdon. Winning pitcher Justin Burchill had a big game at the plate, rapping two hits and knocking in three runs. Cory Van Matre singled, doubled and plated three runs for Hettinger, which finished the season 47-10.

50 YEARS AGO (1968): Bob Waldal, pitching for the Dickinson Job Corps, eliminated 25 state penitentiary batters on strikeouts but lost the game 7-2 at the prison. The state penitentiary batters reached Waldal for 10 hits. Winning pitcher Leo Guhl whiffed 14 Dickinson hitters.
