10 YEARS AGO (2008): Jordyn Strege's overtime goal gave Winona State a 1-0 victory over the University of Mary in the semifinals of the Northern Sun soccer tournament at Winona. Strege charged the net for the winning goal with just 34 seconds elapsed in overtime. Her opportunity came when U-Mary keeper Carly Feiler mishandled a hard shot by Melissa Sellier.
20 YEARS AGO (1998): Ross Brennan ran for 191 yards on 30 carries, most of them straight-ahead, helping West Fargo to a 22-19 football playoff win over visiting Bismarck. Brennan scored the first two Packer touchdowns on runs of eight and five yards. Bismarck's Seth Sandness ran seven times for 40 yards and a touchdown and caught three passes for 86 yards.
50 YEARS AGO (1968): Fred Lasher, a relief pitcher for the World Series champion Detroit Tigers and formerly a member of the Bismarck-Mandan Pards, will speak at the monthly meeting of the Bismarck Quarterback Club.
Mandan has the second-most state swimming titles with eight, one more than Century.
