UND's hockey program is well represented as NHL training camp gets underway this weekend.

After 22 former UND players logged NHL ice time last season, 29 are in training camps currently, including four members of last season's team.

The first-year pros are goalie Cam Johnson (New Jersey), defenseman Christian Wolanin (Ottawa) and forwards Shane Gersich with defending Stanley Cup champion Washington and Austin Poganski with St. Louis.

The 22 UND alumni in the NHL last season was the most of any National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) team.

Chicago and New Jersey each have three former UND players. The Blackhawks are represented by captain Jonathan Toews, Luke Johnson and Nick Schmaltz.

Along with Johnson, New Jersey also features forwards Drew Stafford and Travis Zajac.

Anaheim (forward Carter Rowney, defenseman Keaton Thompson), Edmonton (F Drake Caggiula, F Brad Malone), Los Angeles (D Derek Forbort, D Paul LaDue), Ottawa (AF dam Tambellini, D Wolanin), St. Louis (F Poganski, D Jordan Schmaltz), Vancouver (F Brock Boeser, D Troy Stecher) and Washington (GF ersich, F T.J. Oshies) have two former UND players each.

Also participating in training camps across the NHL are forward Zach Parise (Minnesota), goalie Zane McIntyre (Boston), forward Tyson Jost (Colorado), defenseman Dillon Simpson (Columbus), forward Rocco Grimaldi (Nashville), forward Brock Nelson (New York Islanders), forward Corban Knight (Philadelphia), goalie Aaron Dell (San Jose) and defenseman Tucker Pool (Winnipeg).

UND has placed 100 players in the NHL. Only Minnesota (110) has more.
