CENTURY'S THOMAS TO PLAY JUNIORS

Century High hockey standout Isaiah Thomas has signed with the Estevan Bruins of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

The prolific-scoring Thomas netted 66 goals in three seasons for the Patriots.

Thoams scored 33 goals as a senior for Century, which advanced to the state championship game before losing to Grand Forks Red River. An all-state forward, Thomas also was credited with 44 assists in the 2017-18 campaign. Thomas scored 17 goals as a sophomore and 16 his junior season.

Estevan advanced to the SJHL championship series last season before losing in seven games.

U-MARY WOMEN PICKED SEVENTH 

The University of Mary women's soccer team is picked seventh in the 16-team Northern Sun preseason coaches' poll.

The Marauders are coming off a strong 2017 campaign, which saw them improve by eight wins and advance to the NSIC tournament semifinals.

The Marauders' players to watch are seniors Jade Smith, a forward, and defensive midfielder Caitlin Dooley. Smith had seven goals and 20 points last season, both team-leading.

The Marauders' season opener is Sept. 6 in Billings, Mont., against Black Hills State.

Defending NSIC champion Minnesota-Mankato is tabbed as the conference favorite. Bemidji State is the second choice with Augustana third. Minot State received one first-place vote and is picked fifth.

VCSU HIRES NEW TRACK COACH

Valley City State University has hired Daniel Scheff as its new track and field and cross country coach.

A former runner at St. Cloud State, Scheff had previously been an assistant coach at NCAA Division III University of Wisconsin-Stout.

Scheff replaces Chris Johnson who was hired as an assistant coach at D-I Tulane after helping the Vikings to 26 school-records in 2017-18.
