The Bismarck Bobcats routed the New Mexico Wolves 5-1 in their season opener on Wednesday in Blaine, Minn.

Playing at the 4-game in 4-day NAHL Showcase, the Bobcats scored two goals in the first period and three in the second to start the season 1-0.

Down 1-0, Austin Schwartz scored at 9:23 of the first period to tie the game. The game remained 1-1 until Tom Piechowski scored with just 28 seconds left in the opening period.

The middle period was all Bismarck.

Ethan Gauer (1:50), Dawson Klein (2:40) and T.J. Irey (19:07) all netted goals as the Bobcats built a 5-1 lead.

Wille Jackson, Will Hillman, Carl Fish and Austin Jouppi earned assists as the Bobcats outshot New Mexico 41-18.

Goalie Ryan Ullan earned the win after stopping 17 of 18 shots.

Bismarck is back in action on Thursday, taking on the Johnstown Tomahawks at 7 p.m. at the Super Rink in Blaine.
