    The clock has nearly run out on the Dakota Wizards. Early Wednesday morning the Santa Cruz City Council voted 7-0 to appropriate funds and finish a deal with parameters set forth that will result in the Wizards moving to the California community for the 2012-13 season.

      When the Dakota Wizards traded for Edwin Ubiles, they felt they were getting a special player. That decision was validated one more time when Ubiles was named to the D-League’s first-team on Wednesday.

      Maurice Baker and Renaldo Major will go head-to-head when the Dakota Wizards take on the Bakersfield Jam today in the D-League playoffs. But there will be another one of the franchise’s greatest players involved in the festivities for what could be the Wizards’ final game in Bismarck.

      Two years ago, the Iowa Energy was hosting an open tryout for a couple of hundred players in the Chicago suburbs. Just when the Energy coaching staff was ready to get things started, three players burst in.

      While Dakota Wizards fans are preoccupied with the news of the team’s impending move to Santa Cruz, Calif., the Wizards themselves have more immediate concerns — namely winning a conference title.
