ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) -- Hunter Jones had three hits and scored two runs, and Phillips Valdez threw five scoreless innings as the Syracuse Chiefs defeated the Rochester Red Wings 4-2 on Thursday.

Valdez (1-0) picked up the win after he allowed two hits and didn't allow any runs.

Up 1-0 in the seventh, Syracuse added to its lead when Jones hit an RBI double and then scored on a single by Rafael Bautista.

Rochester answered in the bottom of the frame when Willians Astudillo hit a two-run double to cut the deficit to one.

The Chiefs tacked on another run in the ninth when Yadiel Hernandez hit an RBI single, scoring Jones.

Trevor May (0-1) went four innings, allowing one run and three hits in the International League game. He also struck out five and walked two. Justin Miller pitched two scoreless innings for his first save of the season.

For the Red Wings, Jake Cave singled twice, also stealing a base.
