10 YEARS AGO (2009): The University of Mary was no match for Upper Iowa, dropping a 25-17, 25-21, 25-12 college road volleyball match to the Peacocks. Nicky Brown and Sara Vance led the Peacock attack with 12 and nine kills, respectively. Amanda Hennessy had eight kills and two clocks for U-Mary.

20 YEARS AGO (1999): Minot quarterback Phil Shirek passed for 124 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 41 yards and another score to lead the Magicians into the state AAA championship football game. Minot rolled over Century 28-6 in the semifinals at Minot. The unbeaten Magicians will play defending state champion West Fargo, also unbeaten, in the title game.

50 YEARS AGO (1969): The Bismarck Junior College cross country team will wind up its regular season at the University of North Dakota invitational meet in Grand Forks. The Mystics have won six meet championships this season and boast the two-time Region 13 junior college individual champion in Gordon McGregor.
