10 YEARS AGO (2009): Bismarck State College won a 108-87 scorefest with United Tribes in the consolation round of the Mon-Dak Conference preseason basketball tournament. Jordan Thilmony topped a quintet of BSC double-figure scorers with 23 points, 12 of them on 3-pointers. Jonathan Bear scored 19 points for United Tribes.

20 YEARS AGO (1999): Angie Frenzel scored 26 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and filched five steals to lead Mandan past Bismarck 55-43 for the state Class A girls basketball championship. The victory at Jamestown broke a streak of three straight championship game losses by the Braves.

50 YEARS AGO (1969): Ralph Ferderer, who officiated sports for 25 years in the Bismarck-Mandan area, has been named to the North Dakota Officials Association Hall of Fame. He is only the second official from the Bismarck-Mandan area to be so honored. George Heidt of Mandan was the first.

Trivia Answer

St. Mary’s defeated Jamestown 3-2 in the West Region tournament championship game in 2013. The tournament was held in Jamestown that year. This year’s tournament begins today and will be played in Jamestown. The top four teams advance to the state tournament Nov. 21-23 at the Fargodome.
