In 1977, Joe left teaching and after completing his training at Texas Heart Institute, began a 34-year career in cardiopulmonary perfusion. Joe was forced to retire in 2013 when he received his devastating diagnosis of cancer.

Joe married Mary Anne Curran on Jan. 16,1999. They were blessed with 19 years of love and adventure. Joe’s favorite outdoor activities included houseboating, barefooting, and jet skiing on Lake Mead and driving his dune buggy in the Nevada desert. Whether on land or water, Joe’s motto was “Just Do It”!

Joe is survived by his wife, Mary Anne; son, David; grandson, Devin (Alisha); granddaughter, Darby; brothers, Russell (Cynthia), Ralph (Carolyn), Robert (Debra); brother-in-law, Mike (Joyce); sister-in-law, Joan (Tom), and many nieces and nephews.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Frieda.
