About Us:

The mission statement for Standing Rock Community Schools: Standing Rock Community School will provide students with opportunities to excel academically, physically, spiritually, and socially by expanding curriculum and activities, increasing community involvement, and integrating culture in the school environment.

The mission statement was composed when Standing Rock Community High School became a grant school, more than a decade ago. The process for its composition is unknown by any current staff members.

Standing Rock Community School is located in Fort Yates, ND on the Standing Rock Sioux Indian Reservation. We are located approximately 60 miles from the closest metropolitan area.

All residents of the Standing Rock Sioux reservation and residents of Fort Yates Public School district are eligible to attend Standing Rock Community High School. According to the 2010 census, 8, 613 people are enrolled residents of the Standing Rock Sioux reservation, which is located along the border of North Dakota and South Dakota.

Standing Rock Community High School draws students from nine different elementary districts.The residents of Standing Rock face many challenges such as extreme poverty, alcoholism, suicide, and abuse. The community has an eighty-five percent unemployment rate.

The three largest employers on the reservation are the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, Prairie Knights Casino, and the school district. Standing Rock Community High School employs 30 highly qualified professional staff and 20 non-certified staff. Many of the staff live outside the community and commute more than hour to work.

The Lakota/Dakota culture is valued on Standing Rock, and many in the community are preserving and practicing the values and language.
