You "Oil People" aren't too hep on lightning. By installing steel tanks with lightning rods you are just asking for Mother Nature to come along and strike you big time! You have just what is needed drill pipe a high grounded alternative to dissipate voltage build up or a direct strike. Cap the top of one of four sections, tack weld the three joints to make a dissipator.

Most tank sites need at least two dissipators, bigger or higher sites more. Place at least 10 feet from tanks and out of truck traffic. Drill a 30-foot hole, find a good sized rock to drop in the hole for the pipe to sit on, insert pipe, plumb up and water pack the hole fill.

This should give lightning a nice high place to go and when it comes to lightning that's just what you need.
