Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump's personal lawyer, who is going to do prison time, appeared, before a televised House Oversight Committee hearing and described Trump as a lying, cheating, racist president who used money and threats to conceal immoral, illegal behavior. Cohen has appeared four times before the House intelligence committee.
Cohen said Trump never expected, or even wanted, to win the 2016 election, “Donald Trump is a man who ran for office to make his brand great, not to make our country great. He had no desire or intention to lead this nation, only to market himself and to build his wealth and power.”
Cohen detailed a scheme that was personally created by Donald Trump and aided by Donald Trump Jr. and the chief finance officer of the Trump Organization, Allen Weisselberg, to illegally pay off Stormy Daniels, the adult film star, who Trump had an illicit affair with four months after Trump’s wife, Melania, had given birth to Trump’s youngest son.
Cohen had personally paid Daniels the $130,000 to buy her silence. A criminal scheme was arranged, by Trump, for Cohen to be reimbursed the $130,000 in a series of installments in order to “hide” the transaction.
At the House Oversight Committee hearing, Cohen produced a copy of a $35,000 check, signed by Trump, from Trump’s personal bank account; it was Trump’s final installment, making Trump an unindicted co-conspirator.
When the check was written, Trump had been president for “six months.”
This felony is indisputable evidence of Trump’s violation of the law. Will this, coupled with the numerous Trump investigations of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, give the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives the motivation and toughness to begin building a methodical case for impeachment? I think so.
