In the midst of ongoing trade negotiations in Washington, it’s easy to lose the signal in all of the noise. While critics warn that bad things are coming to North Dakota, they miss the progress being made, particularly for our ag industry, thanks to the advocacy from Gov. Doug Burgum. Burgum has met with President Donald Trump multiple times to advocate for North Dakota’s world-class farmers and ranchers.
This advocacy is showing its effects. Recently, Trump announced that the federal restriction on E15 sales will be lifted, allowing sales of E15 year-round. This is a big win for North Dakota farmers in the biofuels industry. A new deal with Canada and Mexico, North Dakota’s largest export markets, expands our access to their dairy and poultry markets. A new deal with South Korea protects our nearly $7 billion farm goods export market in that country. These are great strides forward for North Dakota that have been pushed along with the advice of Burgum.
With Burgum’s aid, Trump will produce trade deals with both China and the EU that will protect North Dakota’s ag interests. Burgum understands the pain that the trade war is inflicting on North Dakota’s farmers, causing high basis numbers and other troubles, his advocacy is encouraging a quick end to the trade war and a fair deal for North Dakota. Thank you, Gov. Burgum, for making sure that North Dakota’s interests are represented in the White House.
