A recent bad odor in parts of Mandan resulted from a necessary repair at the wastewater treatment plant, the city says.

Operators had to lower the water level in the plant's sludge basin to work on a pipe, and solids that were agitated when they refilled the basin with fresh water worsened the odor associated with the basin.

Plant operators have modified daily operations to help reduce the odor, and officials are researching long-term odor control methods.
