A rural Washburn farmer is dead after an accident during a fencing operation Thursday morning.

John L. Holznagel, 33, was working when a mechanical issue led to him being struck and pinned by a loader-tractor at his farm about 9 miles west of town, the McLean County Sheriff's Department reported. Family members gave him immediate aid until first responders arrived.

First responders continued life-saving efforts en route to CHI St. Alexius Medical Center where Holznagel was pronounced dead, the sheriff's office reported.

Responding agencies included the McLean County Sheriff's Department, Washburn Ambulance Service and Washburn Fire Department.
