MINOT — A thief or thieves stole up to $3,500 in tents and outdoor equipment from a Boy Scout troop trailer parked in the First Lutheran Church parking lot Oct. 25, according to Troop 1416 leader Darrell Kraft, the Minot Daily News reported.
Kraft said the troop is sponsored by First Lutheran Church.
The trailer contained up to six tents the troop uses for camping, along with items such as axes, lanterns, an expensive first aid kit, a torch, a coffee pot and propane cylinders. The thief or thieves also opened a container of American flags and stomped all over the flags, which were left on the ground, said Kraft.
The eight boys in the troop are between the ages of 10 and 18.
Kraft said the troop carried liability insurance on the trailer but not comprehensive insurance on the stolen items, which will have to be replaced. The troop still has some equipment, but not enough for all the boys in the troop to use. Kraft said the troop goes camping about once or twice a month during the warmer seasons.
The theft was reported to police, but Kraft said there apparently is no surveillance camera footage showing the theft.
