A house fire near McClusky killed a child and sent three family members to a burn center in St. Paul, Minn.

Emergency crews responded to the fire 10 miles northeast of McClusky about 2 p.m. Wednesday. The house was engulfed in flames and responders weren't able to enter the home.

Two family members were taken by ground ambulance and one by air to a Bismarck hospital. All three were airlifted to the Burn Center at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

The remains of a child were recovered from the structure Thursday afternoon. The names of the family members and the age of the child weren't immediately released.

The state fire marshal, Bureau of Criminal Investigation officers and Sheridan County Sheriff's Department officials were at the scene Thursday investigating the cause of the fire. No foul play is suspected, but the investigation is continuing, according to county Emergency Manager Wayne Houston.

The fire and death of a child has left the community reeling, he said.

McClusky is the seat of Sheridan County. It had a population of 380 at the 2010 census.
