JAMESTOWN — A 29-year-old man suffered injuries that were not life-threatening after being stabbed in the Walmart parking lot around 8:30 p.m. Monday in Jamestown and a suspect was later arrested, police said.

The victim was approached by a man and a brief exchange of words followed before the male suspect grabbed the victim from behind and around his shoulders, stabbing him in the upper neck and chin area with a knife, according to Maj. Justin Blinsky, assistant chief of the Jamestown Police Department.

Police reported the two men were acquaintances; however, Sarah Smith, who identified the victim as her husband, Steven Shake, told The Jamestown Sun they did not know the suspect but were acquainted with his wife.

The suspect fled the scene while the victim received medical attention in the parking lot. Police later identified the suspect as Roylan Laureta, 54, who was arrested at approximately 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, in Logan County, with the assistance of the Logan County Sheriff's Office and Napoleon Police Department.
