The man killed this week after the motorcycle he was driving hit an animal on the highway was identified Thursday as Gary Dukart, 61, Hazen, the North Dakota Highway Patrol said.

Dukart was traveling from Bismarck to Hazen on state Highway 200A on Tuesday morning when he lost control about 11 miles northeast of Center, according to the Highway Patrol.

The motorcycle went into the ditch and Dukart was thrown. He died at the scene.

The Highway Patrol did not release what type of animal he hit.
