A total of $6.9 million in grants will be awarded to the communities of Rolla and Hazelton for water projects, the state’s congressional delegation announced.
Thee grants were awarded Friday by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Office of Rural Development.
The funds are for such projects as the improvement and replacement of old water systems, improving water distribution and providing fire protection.
A total of $4.2 million is being awarded to projects in Rolla and $2.7 million for projects in Hazelton.
Sens. Heidi Heitkamp and John Hoeven and Rep. Kevin Cramer said in a statement that the funds will provide a better quality of life in the two communities.
“Infrastructure development is vital to maintaining healthy communities. These funds will not only help meet the needs of long-time residents, but will support growth in these communities,” their statement said.
